Team Fortress 2 is now free to play forever

In a move that probably sent some shock waves through the relatively mediocre market free to play online shooter Team Fortress 2, hilariously goofy and yet popular centred multiplayer online shooter from valve, is officially free of steam from here on out.

FREEEEEDOOOOOMMMM!!!!

Initially the announcement came as part of an interview with the TF2 Robin Walker project manager and later confirmed by press release late last night.

The announcement of free to play comes as part of the massive "Über update," that the valve is described as the largest content update that the game has received since the launch of the game in 2007.

The only way to montetization TF2 will employ from now until eternity is through microtransactions. Players can purchase items from the store of the game, but beyond that, the game is free, free, free.

How all this rub you, the player's current or future TF2? Free to play often has a bit of a filthy connotation to it, but since it's valve and TF2 is already a known quantity (an impressive known quantity in the), it is difficult to see how anything less could be a good thing for the growth of the TF2 community at this stage of life of the game.

In other words, they already have the Orange Box of TF2 version, and I am currently downloading version of steam as we speak. Now seriously, because what the hell does not right?
