Halo 2 takes place in the same universe that Halo 1. According to history, humans colonized many worlds due to the development of travel at the speed of light. 27 Years before the beginning of Halo 2, the outer colony had harvest by a group of alien races, the Covenant destroyed. Since then the man and the Federal Government in a bloody war, with heavy losses fell forces of the UN Security Council. The Cole Protocol was hoping to avoid that the Federal Government discovered the centers of the human population, above all the Earth.
