Stop me if you have ever heard: a top-down dual stick "Bullet Hell"-shooter in the midst of a faux ultra military world, with a very common name and seems to come out of the damn blue. Gatling Gears fits this description to the letter, but even so, it is a great game.

click to enlargeIn the prologue we meet Max and Julius, two war buddies just their Mech combined training. Sooner rather than later the evil enemy group is the basis of the Empire and chaos takes place. In the resulting battle their enemy is defeated, with Julius want the remaining enemy villages, so max with no choice to destroy, but the army desert. Living with his niece, Max is forced years later, low, again in his tank jump to the Empire for always stop.

Gatling Gears is pretty much what you would expect from this type of shooter. The left stick controls movement of the one for targets while the right, and shoot an endless shooting cannon is used. You are also able to use missiles and grenades, along with a limited weapon of mass destruction for those "oh, crap" moments.

Bullets fly all over the screen, but fortunately, the controls are very fast, so you pretty much quickly Dodge everything if you the skills. If you anything like me and are terrible at this sort of game are, are you like probably you your walking tank with everything can upgrade to stronger shields on more powerful rocket launcher. The way you update your character attributes is tied directly to exploration. By stepping into the pirates shop at the beginning of each field set, can you spend gold bars that you collect during the phases in four categories.

Due to the destruction of enemies, get gear-bits, which become a combo counter, which, in turn, multiplying your score as long as you remain unaffected. For every certain points you earn, experience is and how to use paint of jobs, a pet, and several tracks flair for cosmetic touches to the tank can.

Side by side with the main campaign a survival mode is wave after wave of enemy attack in a closed arena, a standard. The mode is on, and features three cards. There is an option for both online and offline co-op for the two game modes also, which is a welcome addition, when you try to complete this XBLA arcade game in hard mode.

It succeeded in vanguard, to develop a pretty good looking game, which is also one of the better arcade games available. The scenery and characters are absurd colorful and very good with bullets, explosions, more bullets and more explosions tear suburban neighborhoods into pieces shatter animate. The destruction and chaos look beautiful and there is little evidence of slowing down. There is also some evidence of their previous game Greed Corp in certain parts of the Gatling gun gear; in particular, levels, where the ground caves in, which alternative paths.

Gatling Gears is the definition of a unexpected surprise. It has a completely generic concept, but its execution is exceptional. This is a little game that is worth a few hours with, even though the replay value is shaky with the $15 price tag. Still, it is charming and much challenge to find whether you go it alone or with a friend in tow.
