Venus wins first match and makes fashion statement

WIMBLEDON, UK-premier world champion Venus Williams, back on their favorite grass surface swept in the second round of Wimbledon on Monday with a straight-set victory over 97th rank Akgul Arnold Uzbekistan.

Williams, the action at Eastbourne last week after an injury layoff of nearly five months, saw right at home the all England Club as Bondarenko beat 6-3 and 6: 1 on the opening day of the 125th Edition of the Championships.

Williams kept their opponents wait for few minutes on Court 2, with Arnold Chair for the 31-year-old Americans sit patiently to their courtside to arrive.

After starting play Williams Bondarenko took game apart in 59 minutes their hard-hitting all court. She served seven ACEs, broke four times and had 23 winners to just five unforced errors - none in the second set.

Arnold, who now has lost four games in the first round at Wimbledon in all, larger than Williams, is 1.90 m (6-foot-3) and can hit hard the ball. But as soon as Williams found their rhythm, she could not be stopped, win six games in a row and the last 12 points, to close out the game.

Williams second-round opponent will be Japan's kimiko date cope, the second oldest women was a match at Wimbledon, Katie O'Brien 6-0 beat, to win 7-5 on Monday.

The 40-year old date cope, third oldest women in Wimbledon in the open era and the oldest in this year's draw, compete retirement came in 2008 but lost all-England in the first round of the last two years at the Club.

To Williams younger sister, Scotsman champion Serena, Benneteau of France face 61st rank will be on Tuesday in the first as Williams Grand Slam match in 50 weeks. They came back at Eastbourne last week, have missed almost a year after two in their lungs foot operations and treatment of blood clots.

"This is a stepping-stone, definitely", said Williams, who is 25th in Monday's is rankings but is seeded No. 7, on their past success. "Be back in the competition is great." It's definitely a step in my journey. And I say a trip, not an end of life always and I will reach my goal, not today or tomorrow. "But this is just a step for the rest of my career."
