RENO, Nevada--ex-NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer and NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley say the players unions took the owner to the cleaners in their time, and now the current crop of multi-millionaires will probably have to pay the price in the form of Givebacks or the real danger of an enlarged lock-outs in their regular season run.

"I think, it is devastating, but I think it's about a lock-out [NBA] be," Barkley said on Thursday.

'I personally think in football and basketball, the owners are going to win this,' Barkley said. "I think the owners, they go for the jugular this time."

The two television analysts had some encouraging words for current players Thursday while he with reporters during a teleconference promoting the American century Celebrity Golf Championship July 15-17 at Lake Tahoe is running.

"I see no players, the chance of the [NFL] outright, to win the negotiation", said Dilfer, who led the Baltimore Ravens to a Super Bowl win over the New York Giants in 2001. "I think they lose to a lesser extent than they can in March." "But no matter how you now cut it, the owners are to win."

"We as players in both leagues have only the owners in the last few collective agreements, have been destroyed", said Dilfer in the year, 2008 retired and now works for ESPN.

Dilfer reminds the longtime Managing Director of the NFL Players Association talk about the last contract extension at Lake Tahoe with Gene Upshaw, which was a regular of celebrity in 2008 the tournament shortly before his death. He said neither could believe how well the Union had done.

"At that time, we knew that if it has expired, a battle Royal--would be, that the owner would figure it got zusammengeschlagen in negotiations,", he said. "The owners are determined, again their piece of the pie."

"Unfortunately as soon as you somewhere, is for the player, it is very difficult to reverse go...." "The players need to go backwards quite clearly."

Dilfer said the lockout had little effect to date, but as the regular season grows closer, who lose players they currently enjoy what little use.

"It's the time to address now," he said. "If we get in mid-July and we are still locked I think there is less motivation to do a deal." ... "The players when it comes to the season, will receive a much worse deal."
