The Future of Graphics? Posted on Wednesday, August 3 @ 13:44:50 Eastern by cyberjim2000
window.fbAsyncInit = function() { FB.init({appId: 'your app id', status: true, cookie: true, xfbml: true}); }; (function() { var e = document.createElement('script'); e.async = true; e.src = document.location.protocol + '//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js'; document.getElementById('fb-root').appendChild(e); }());
Called "Unlimited Detail Real-Time Rendering Technology". Instead of rendering polygon models, this technology instead renders voxels as tiny atoms. It sort of looks good but there's some obvious downsides rendering games like this. For example, we haven't seen stuff move in this engine and don't know how well things would move either.
A couple of developers already commented on the engine. John Carmack said on his twitter account that current console technology probably can't handle this type of rendering... but maybe in several years.
So what do you guys think? Are we staring at the future of graphics in games?

cyberjim2000 - Joined: Feb 28, 2010Yep, that's where I found the link. I'm a bit skeptical myself. Last time I checked, they haven't shown stuff move in that engine they're trying to develop and we certainly haven't seen it in an gaming environment. For example, what happens if a bullet strikes that tree? Would nothing happen or would something happen and lags the console/computer?0 0Like or Dislike?Posted: Aug 3rd, 2011 at 5:07 pm

PC gamers will be rubbing this in all the console gamers' faces for at LEAST half a year before the console developers start to play catch-up.0 0Like or Dislike?Posted: Aug 3rd, 2011 at 2:23 pm

The sales pitch is a scam but the technology that this rendering engine is based off of isn't.0 0Like or Dislike?Posted: Aug 3rd, 2011 at 5:33 pm

Pire-at-Sea
Far away in the kingdom of Pire-at-Sea the evil ruler Arfor concocted a diabolical plan. He would create cloned citizens to infiltrate the kingdoms of Ninmar , Migat and Sogi . These clones would work for the citizens of the kingdoms for free providing the sorts of home help services the kingdoms’ citizens ordinarily paid for regularly. Anyone who wanted to could simply import a clone and avoid paying fees to the huge home help companies of Ela , Blizz and Capla . ...
