Strasburg return to the Hill is almost magical
Team-mates congratulate Stephen Strasburg, after hitting four of five innings of work. (US Presswire)
WASHINGTON--A year away, and he came back throwing 99.
A year away, and he came back with five ultra impressive shutout innings.
A year away, and he gave us some that we almost want to wait that long, to see him pitch again.
Do Stephen Strasburg start again tomorrow? Day after tomorrow?
We do not want when ever it is, to miss it.
Tuesday afternoon, when comparing nationals of pitching coach Steve McCatty Stephen Strasburg, Justin Verlander, he spoke about the style of pitching and quality of the material. But there an other comparison, which is apt only as is.
If Strasbourg is pitching, don't look away. You make plans to see.
As starting.
Strasburg returned Tuesday night, his first major start after Tommy John surgery and the 12 months of rehab, which belong to. And this feeling returned.
Nationals, which limited him to five innings and 56 seats. To limit the amount of anything close rain in the afternoon and a terrible forecast, what was expected.
But the fastball was back. The changeup and the breaking ball, to. The command. The presence.
And the magic. Yes, above all the magic.
In a sense, this 2011 version of Strasburg is even better than the version of the us last summer captivated. He says that he used the year of rehab, stronger, mentally and physically. He learned that the goal should be radar guns for luminaires, but get outs and prevent the solid contact, which is leading.
But he did not lose that magic.
Really, so few pitchers have so few pitchers Strasbourg/starting repertoire of pitches.
It's why when McCatty was looking for a comparison, he brought up the Tigers right-handed, the American League Cy Young favorite. He used it in talks with Strasbourg, to tell him that, although he can throw 100 mph (such as starting), he is better, not always trying 100 throw (like not starting).
"I want to learn how do starting pitch, but to learn what starting him not," said McCatty. "It must not be 100 percent of all time." Not every pitch is set to 100 percent. "He can place in a controlled environment with 95-96."
Most of Tuesday were the Strasburg of fast ball with 96 km/h was, but he had 99, when he it (for a second inning strikeout of Aaron miles) required.
McCatty the message came through, because if Strasbourg Tuesday night said not 100 constantly, throw, he said to: "Look at some of the best pitchers in the game." "Justin Verlander, e. G.."
The speed is in what us excited, part of what us back, part of what brings us interests, in an otherwise September game between the nationals and Dodgers had nothing. But there is more, to explain something serious, like it with starting.
"He and Strassie alike are a lot," said McCatty.
But starting is 28, with 104 major victories, two no. hitters, a world series. Strasbourg only 23, and Tuesday's start was only his 13 in the major leagues. He was a national star when he was still the minor (and not only a citizen star).
His debut last year was perhaps the hardest ticket nationals ever had, and with 14 strikeouts in that night against the pirates, he lived up to the opportunity. Who knows what have drawn start without the gloomy forecast on Tuesday, would be (100% chance rain all night, it said)?
As it was, the nationals announced participate on 29.092 though nowhere close to many showed up.
Nevertheless disappoint not Strasbourg.
In five innings, which were allowed only two hits he a Leadoff Bloop double Dee Gordon in the first, and a single Juan Rivera, who went under shortstop of Ian Desmond's glove in the fourth. He hit you with the feeling that he could have more owejannyje, if he wanted or needed to four, but leave.
On a night when he was on not more than 60 pitches was limited, he say for four innings Manager Davey Johnson hope. Strasburg found a way to get through five ahead.
"He saw quite relaxed, totally in the control," said Johnson. "He made it easy looks." "He was something special."
He is something special, the starting is something special.
Strasbourg had special significance, that night because he had surgery on the 3rd September 2010, a goal of pitching in the major league season set. He managed it, left with enough time that it starts three more before the end of the season to get.
Good for him. And good for us because we get to see him pitch.
"It was just fun watching him," Johnson said. "It had been as he out."
He was one year, and now he's back.
And now we can't wait to see him again.
