2K Games have been doing a great deal to showcase The Darkness II's most violent, colorful features.... That means tons and tons of dismemberment, blood, death, and shooting. I'll be honest with you. I don't have a weak stomach. I've played my share of violent video games. There are moments in The Darkness II that I winced at. Digital Extremes is doing everything right when it comes to unnerving the player with over-the-top blood and gore.

And a huge part of that comes from The Darkness II's great art direction. The world itself feels like a living breathing comic book. Blacks come with a taste of purple. Enemies are animated and colorful. The environments light up naturally and the actual Darkness powers drip with crimson blood.

The demo at PAX Prime was made up of several levels to give visitors a taste of different parts in the game's campaign. It showcased Jackie's renewed use of The Darkness, the mob hit on his life, and his escape. In between each section Jackie was getting crucified and threatened. I wasn't too clear on exactly who was demanding Jackie to transfer The Darkness powers to him, but between the Mafia and the occult, I don't think Jackie will be able to give up his powers anytime soon.

Little touches lent a visceral sense to all the shooting and violence. When Jackie is firing two pistols at the same time, he'll hold them together to give the player better aim. The Darkness can pick up enemies and throw them. Eating the hearts out of baddies will give you more power. Quad-wielding felt satisfying, fluid, and more importantly powerful.

If you're looking forward to more about The Darkness II, keep an eye on GameRevolution. The Darkness II is slated for release on February 7th for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.
