Valve Offering Free Portal 2 and DOTA 2 After Security Breach?
AppId is over the quota
Yesterday we reported on Steam's security breach in which their database was accessed by hackers, who made off with encrypted personal information such as passwords, email and billing addresses, and possibly credit card numbers.
Today there's more news, but it's of the nicer variety. From an email that was sent by Gabe Newell, Valve is going to be "rolling out some free copies of DOTA 2 and Portal 2 soon". It's not clear from the email whether that move is meant to appease customers worried about the leak, but with the timing of it one would guess that's the case.
It's also important to stress again that any information accessed was heavily encrypted and Valve doesn't have cause to believe that we'll need to change our passwords or credit card info. That kind of a claim is usually small comfort, but Valve has a history of transparency and honesty with its customers.

Toledo wants Syracuse win erased after officiating gaffe

TOLEDO, Ohio -- Toledo wants Syracuse's 33-30 overtime win against the Rockets to be vacated after a Big East official acknowledged that replay officials wrongly awarded an extra point for a kick that was no good.
Toledo athletic director Mike O'Brien said he has asked the Mid-American Conference commissioner to request that the Big East give Toledo the victory.
MAC commissioner Jon Steinbrecher released a statement Monday.
"Since the conclusion of the Toledo-Syracuse game, I have been in communication with Big East commissioner John Marinatto, along with Rogers Redding, secretary-rules editor of the NCAA Football Rules Committee. By rule once the game is declared over the score is final and there is no recourse to reverse an outcome.
"I share the frustration and regret with our Toledo coaches, student-athletes, administration and supporters of the Rockets football program. Immediately following the game, Bill Carollo, coordinator of officials of the Midwest Football Officials Alliance (MAC, Big Ten, Missouri Valley), reviewed the play and was in contact with Big East coordinator of officials, Terry McAuley, and both officials agreed that the ruling on the field and replay official both failed to make the correct call.
"As disappointing as this situation is, we are confident that proper action will be taken by the Big East Conference."
Toledo made a field goal to force overtime Saturday, but the Orange came back with a field goal to win. The Rockets are upset because video showed Syracuse narrowly missed an extra-point attempt after an earlier touchdown. Officials who reviewed the kick let the extra point stand.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Former World Series MVP Manny Ramirez was released from jail Tuesday after authorities arrested him for allegedly slapping his wife during a dispute at their South Florida home.
Ramirez was released from the Broward County Jail on $2,500 bail on the domestic battery charge. Broward Circuit Judge Jon Hurley ordered that he have no direct contact with his wife.
The former World Series MVP, charged with domestic battery, posts bail at $2,500. (AP) Broward sheriff's officials say 39-year-old Ramirez was arguing with his wife, Juliana, Monday afternoon when he slapped her face, causing her to hit her head on their bed's headboard. She told the deputy she was afraid the situation would escalate.
Authorities say Ramirez denied hitting his wife.
Ramirez was met by several family members when he left the jail just before noon, getting into a white Cadallic Escalade.
A knot of reporters and television cameras had followed him to the parking lot, but he refused to answer questions saying, "Let me see, where's my family?"
When a reporter said "You have to give us something," Ramirez replied: "Not my problem."
He spoke to another TV reporter in Spanish and put his arm around two of the female reporters. He was wearing a tight, muscle-showing T-shirt and dark, low-slung pants.
One woman, who identified herself as his sister, spoke briefly.
"He's my brother, we love him no matter what. He's an amazing guy and we love him no matter what," she said before rolling up the window. She refused to give her name.
Ramirez retired in April from the Tampa Bay Rays after he tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance. Rather than face a 100-game suspension for a second violation of Major League Baseball's drug policy, the 12-time All-Star left the game.

Here's my theory on what happened with Manny Ramirez. Read More >>
Ramirez previously served a 50-game ban in 2009 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Second-time offenders get double that penalty.
One of the game's great sluggers, Ramirez was named MVP of the World Series in 2004 and helped Boston end an 86-year title drought.
He was selected 13th overall by the Cleveland Indians in the 1991 amateur draft out of New York City and rose quickly through the minor leagues with a youthful exuberance and natural charisma.
He broke into the majors in 1993 and played his first full season the following year, when he finished second to the Royals' Bob Hamlin in voting for Rookie of the Year. Ramirez went on to establish himself as one of the game's most feared hitters, adopting a dreadlock hairdo that seemed to mirror his happy-go-lucky demeanor.
He signed with the Red Sox as a free agent in December 2000, helping the long-suffering franchise win the World Series a few years later, then doing it again in 2007.
The Red Sox traded him to the Dodgers in July 2008. He instantly became a fan favorite on the West Coast, with "Mannywood" signs popping up around town, as he led Los Angeles to the NL West title and a sweep of the Chicago Cubs in the playoffs. The clutch performances earned Ramirez a $45 million, two-year contract.
All that goodwill fizzled the following May, when Ramirez tested positive for human chorionic gonadotropin, a banned female fertility drug often used to help mask steroid use.

Walsh spent three seasons in New York, leading massive reconstruction efforts, which the Knicks back into the playoffs of this season following the acquisition of Amar ' E Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony.
But Dolan does not pick up his option for next season, and reconcile the two concepts of an extension could not.
"In a relatively short time with the Knicks, Donnie made a huge impact, that feeling will be for many years," said Dolan. "We thank Donnie for his leadership, hard work and many contributions to the revitalization of the team".
The Knicks said Walsh, who will move back to Indiana, a consultant will next season. Senior Vice President Glen Grunwald serves as interim Managing Director.
Walsh came in New York after the 2007-08 season and was cleaning up immediately to work the confusion by Isiah Thomas links. That meant spent two years reduce one of the highest payrolls in the League, the Knicks always far enough under the salary cap make two top players last summer.
The Knicks got only Stoudemire but in February for Anthony traded and finished 42-40, their first winning record in a decade. You failed in their first season of Boston since 2004, and the roster needs compete essential upgrades with top teams in the Eastern Conference.

That was an embarrassment on and off the Court during Thomas rule, he brought professionalism to a Knicks organization, unloaded some of the onerous contracts, which prevents them for years and the team relax media policy.
His record in New York was underwhelming--high Lottery picks Danilo Gallinari and Jordan Hill are already gone, but Gallinari in the trade Anthony-- but Walsh always said that his focus was free agency, believe that was the fastest way to create a team.
"I think that I would do that," said Walsh. "I think I have, that you first."
Sesame Street: After officially announced on a monster, developed by double fine

If Sesame Street: once on a monster was the first leaked by Microsoft, I wasn't impressed at all, and was far more concerned about Halo. That changed as Tim Schafer took to the stage and revealed that he would develop the title.
Schafer said:

Then, he showed that a man and child plays an Elmo and cookie monster mini game to support the game with Kinect.
