2K Games have been doing a great deal to showcase The Darkness II's most violent, colorful features.... That means tons and tons of dismemberment, blood, death, and shooting. I'll be honest with you. I don't have a weak stomach. I've played my share of violent video games. There are moments in The Darkness II that I winced at. Digital Extremes is doing everything right when it comes to unnerving the player with over-the-top blood and gore.

And a huge part of that comes from The Darkness II's great art direction. The world itself feels like a living breathing comic book. Blacks come with a taste of purple. Enemies are animated and colorful. The environments light up naturally and the actual Darkness powers drip with crimson blood.

The demo at PAX Prime was made up of several levels to give visitors a taste of different parts in the game's campaign. It showcased Jackie's renewed use of The Darkness, the mob hit on his life, and his escape. In between each section Jackie was getting crucified and threatened. I wasn't too clear on exactly who was demanding Jackie to transfer The Darkness powers to him, but between the Mafia and the occult, I don't think Jackie will be able to give up his powers anytime soon.

Little touches lent a visceral sense to all the shooting and violence. When Jackie is firing two pistols at the same time, he'll hold them together to give the player better aim. The Darkness can pick up enemies and throw them. Eating the hearts out of baddies will give you more power. Quad-wielding felt satisfying, fluid, and more importantly powerful.

If you're looking forward to more about The Darkness II, keep an eye on GameRevolution. The Darkness II is slated for release on February 7th for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.

RAGE Hands-On: The First Hour

RAGE Hands-On: The First Hour

AppId is over the quota

A massive meteor is about to collide with Earth and all the world's willing (and financially able) blast off to space to sleep in cryogenic chambers. Who knows what they'll find when they awaken.

I should say if they awaken, because of the 20 or so inhabitants that line the walls next to your character in RAGE after your pod has crashed back on Earth, you're the only one waking up. With no idea of where to go, what's happened, or who runs the land you've just stepped out on.

Even when John Goodman's character, Dan Hagar, saves you from a couple of bloodthirsty bandits, you'll be left with little clue as to what's going on. Settlements have sprung up, bandits and otherwise, and most everyone needs something done.

"Go clean out this garage of bandits, and I'll reward you with your own car."

"Go look for my son who was stupid enough to wander off with a gun, you can take this one."

Quest givers are just a hair's thread from whiny, but the mystery left behind after the meteor is motivation enough. So is the shooting. Gunplay is the real star in any id Software game, and it shines here. Enemies use varied tactics, whether the feral-looking bandits are swinging around on pipes and rolling underneath your shots, or the robbers holding that garage are ducking behind cover, you'll have to switch guns and tactics on the fly.

Varying ammo types also do different types of jobs. You'll take the heads off of enemies with powered up revolver slugs or set others on fire with a different type of shotgun ammunition. All of this can be picked up off the ground, but enemy guns fade away. It's disappointing to see something so natural be walled off from the player, but I couldn't complain with the arsenal I was being given.

Driving from mission to mission in these early stages was more of a chore than it was a distraction from all the shooting. Hopefully bandits will attack in route as you progress through the game, but within the first hour I wasn't very impressed.

It'd be easy to write RAGE off as a shooter with some light RPG and vehicle mechanics on top of it, but any FPS from id Software is always a master-class in dispatching enemies with hot lead. To say that I was disappointed by any one aspect would be an overstatement.

Enemy AI is impressive and the world is fully fleshed with tons of characters and things to look at. I won't judge a book by its cover and I won't judge a game by the first hour, but there's a ton of promise in RAGE. Garages host races and there are some distraction in towns. The cars handle well and zip around the wasteland like go-karts, but the shooting... The shooting is the main course.

I've essentially only played the tutorial, but RAGE was already drawing my first-person shooter instincts out like no other. Gamers with a penchant for lengthy single-player campaigns and action-game mechanics will find plenty to love in RAGE. Keep a look out for it when it lands on store shelves October 4th for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

FIREFALL PAX Prime 2011 hands-on

FIREFALL PAX Prime 2011 hands-on

I've been with you love readers in front. I think at least think that I have been so honest as possible. I am not a MMO type. If you want that a MMO guy, you are better off Joshread work. Hell, I'm more the blockbuster action-shooter, adventure game, handheld and portable players. While Josh is busy raiding in world of Warcraft, I am Chainsawing the Locsusts to death in gears of war.

Of course, Josh was to anyone and I was, because I write about Firefall, I looked at me one of the few MMOs after the beta phase. Red 5 Studios made sure PAX- goers knew, about their game well up front, offers even a bad for people who are interested in more, around the Convention make prey as and waiting... and waiting... and snake.

OK, so Firefall is a big deal, it was interested in the attention of players not in the rule of MMO's, and it is of Red 5 Studios, which happens to mark a development House, core, team management function for world of Warcraftdevelopment have begun in 2005. The whole story?

FIREFALL takes place on Earth, even if you cannot see it is suitable, makes people or are the resource that fight you over. Crystite was the leading source of energy, shortly after its discovery, but the overuse of Crystite led to a storm of energy called the merger. Sh *.

To complicate the matter, an alien race, called the was chosen from the fusion and decided these pitiful people messed up! Hey you all! We can not get away! What do you do?

Players will choose from four Battleframes, that essentially are classes that will play important role in the fight. Soldiers can attack a lot of damage, but they can also much, much damage with their Quake- esque rocket launcher. Recon soldiers move faster and more agilely but less health. Doctors and engineers do to do... pretty much expectations.

These soldiers are with jetpacks for verticality in their navigation. You want to grab this edge and chase a few evil? Done. Would you float above your enemies to your rocket splash damage? Done? Your team members to heal, but want to hide behind them and want to get up in the air, so that the enemy can simply kill you? You're stupid Wow, Medic.

As a Jetpack sounds tribes, right? Lead designer Scott Youngblood, walked me through the PAX demo, developed the original game of the tribes . This is the kind of pedigree, I would like to get in my massively multiplayer online game. Never mind that fast and hectic was, I had on a Jetpack!

Closed with a permanent event in the play the demo chosen of a hub world. Players gathered to defend the city with massive towers, the situation on the mothership and the enemy pods, that it has been deleted. While the attack, we successfully defended Youngblood told me that if we failed players would have to take back the city at a later date.

FIREFALL Beta registration now accepted, so you would head of better and a place to try the game before it started. Whether you get in the beta or not, Firefall will be always at your fingertips. Flows which in the free-to-play market as one of the best looking continued massive shooter on the PC. There's far too much in Firefall like to believe that it is free to play.

No. more heroes: Heroes' paradise interview and hands-on at E3

No. more heroes: Heroes' paradise interview and hands-on at E3

Over at Konami's E3 booth today was I able to a few minutes to Tak Fujii, producer behind the PS3 port of cult favorite are talking access No. more heroes, subtitle Heroes' paradise (Fujii-San works in Frogger 3D).

GR: It felt for me, that Heroes' paradise a bit of a mix of the original NMH with some of the improvements in NMH2 is. You can contact us about speaking this gap?

Fujii: That's changed as just porting the Wii version for the PS3, so we changed not the storyline and we not the characters. Game play mode is the same concept, but originally this game is published in Japan and we were not satisfied with what they, for the PS3 conversion actions.

GR: Yeah, I noticed that your special power-ups in this version, as in the sequel, in contrast to them only you used is automatically, if one has received you can.

Fujii: Yes, and some of the mini games are additional. Mr. Suda [51] wanted to not make you put in the Wii version, but some of them, so we added it.

GR: was how much input Suda-San for this version?

Fujii: Not too much. It monitors basically on this title. So we hit him: this is what we want to add, this is the character want to we use, and so on, and he says a maybe not for this, but this is good for another. So he is not really, but it is monitoring.

GR: what can we expect for DLC?

Fujii: We are variations on the weapons, how strangely have beam katanas. We have also variations on the wheel. And we are also a model view mode, in which you can see each character, rotate it, and play their animations to add. Since this version for HD is updated visually, it's really nice to see the updated versions of the characters.

In addition to the interview I have me on the first level the controls move to fool with (the game is compatible with a regular controller, but what is not forcibly NMH , if you can charge your lightsaber shake a phallus-shaped apparatus?). The game is definitely much better search in HD on the PS3. The cel shaded graphics have never more saw, and the animation is so silky smooth as Silvia's breasts.

As I mentioned above, I was very happy that you can your special power-ups by the slot machine, which has roles in NMH2as deserved, but it even a step further in this one, so that you at once to save the three power-ups. I was told a bit of yardage, that five of the bosses of NMH2 as optional bosses, as Travis (of course) asleep on the toilet available will be found at regular intervals in a fabulous encounters. Heroes paradise who NMH to the Wii, and it is missing or cannot be updated is a view that enough to worth a second look, even if you have already experienced the bloody madness.

UPDATE: Fujii-San followed with us the names of the five bosses complemented by NMH2confirm: helter skelter, Nathan Copeland, Kimmy Howell, Matt Helms and Alice twilight!
