El fútbol es uno de los mejores deportivos del mundo. Es un juego emocionante y excitante, quién podría pedir por más? Oh, sorry, I’m getting a little ahead of myself. It’s hard not to feel a bit of the passion from these international sport games. As I was saying, though, football soccer is definitely thrilling and exciting. So it's unfortunate that the United States has one of the smallest football fan base in the world. Despite the disinterest, video games like FIFA and I guess Pro Evolution Soccer too seem to sell quite well here in the U.S.

Pro Evolution Soccer or PES has now been around, quietly, for over a decade. Living in the shadow of its much more successful competitor, EA’s FIFA Soccer, PES 12 is looking to make heads turn. And developer Konami, have done just that. But instead of turning towards the game, people might just want to look away. It’s really not that bad, but after the main course FIFA served me up this year, Gooooal! Or was it? has left the dessert plate a little empty.

Playing this game is like driving Ms. Daisy; everything is slowed down and explained as if it were teaching a preschooler. Okay, Konami, I get that your controls are different than every other football game. No, I don’t want to try them out in the “skills challenge”. Yeah, yeah, thanks for all the help. Can I play a match now? What do you mean I have to create an avatar? Fine… now can I play? Create a character?! AHHH! I struggled for an hour just to get into an actual match.

Once I finally got into a game, though, I was all smiles. Player introductions, national anthems, chanting crowd—it gives a full taste of a real football game. Then the kick-off got underway and my smile turned into one of those back-slash grins people like to send in texts. Now I’m not a graphics snob, but the movement engine is funky. Players don’t seem to flow when running around with or without the ball. It feels like the computer.. has... to... think... of... each... step... before... taking... it. On the upside, the animation for scoring a goal is awesome—mechanically the best graphics you'll get here—and the selection of celebrations to choose from is staggering.

What PES 2012 lacks in quality it sure makes up in quantity. The different modes include exhibition, a few different season types, on-line play, and Football Life. Much like FIFA’s “Be a Pro”, Football Life is geared around controlling one player to give you a footballer’s pro experience. Locked to a character of your creation, you must grind out that player’s career.

Starting off at the bottom rung and working up to being one of the world’s best, you play in the hopes of winning and finally retiring as a sure Hall of Famer. During seasons, your player is even subbed in and out of games like a real rotation. The down part is you can’t skip the time your player is on the bench, only fast forward. This gets boring fast. Now would be the perfect time to play fetch with Woofy, as you wait until your next tag in.

The biggest addition to this year’s title is the ability to control two players at once. Now, while dribbling the ball with one player, you have the option to move around another player at the same time. This can be tricky, but if mastered, it's a handy skill that will result is some fast break, on-goal shots. Fortunately, you may turn this on or off depending on your preference.

Konami doesn’t have all of the exclusive rights to trademarks like FIFA has, so don’t expect to see all the official branding you may want to see. Some kits, stadiums, players, and even leagues are missing. I searched high and low, but not even the M.L.S. is featured. We can be honest, though: Who actually uses the M.L.S. when picking teams and leagues?

To put it frankly, unless you are some die-hard, old school fan of Pro Evolution Soccer, save your pennies and stick with FIFA. PES 2012 isn't a terrible game at all, but head-to-head, it's not the one controlling the ball; it puts on a show that your little brother might like. But for now the curtains should stay closed until the production grabs an identity. Cristiano Ronaldo is on the cover. though... that has to mean something... something...

GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!

... That's pretty much the only soccer term I know. But is there any sentiment more appropriate when we give away free games out of what kindness is left in our jaded, cynical hearts? I don't think so.

This week you'll be pitting your haiku'ing skills in the battle royale known as Haiku Fridays for a PS3 copy of FIFA Soccer 12, which scored well with us in our recent review.

I happened to be in Italy in the summer of '06 when they won the World Cup, and was subsequently in awe of about the biggest party I've ever seen. But outside of that one magical month when everyone was a fan, I really know nothing about soccer, which makes it tough to come up with a relatable theme...

So fuck it, we're doing Nyan Cat this week!

HAIKU GO!

All right, let’s see here, I got my nachos, my Patrick Willis jersey, 12-pack of beer, I’m ready for some football! Wait... Wayne Rooney? Rafael Márquez? And Landon Donovan? This isn’t football, this is soccer?! Where's John Madden?! He needs to be informed that some sport is trying to take the football name.

Just kidding! As much as some Americans would like to believe, the other kind of football is the world’s leading sports cornerstone. From around the world, nations gather in the masses to get a glimpse of their beloved home and national teams play. It’s a game that has been passed on for centuries, some say even dating back to the 8th century of Ancient Greece. Lucky for us, we live in a time where if we don’t want to go out and play, we have the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and all the other magical gaming machines one could seizure over (with glee).

Enter FIFA 12, back with a vengeance. EA Sports is currently on a little hot streak with the latest releases of Madden 12 and NHL 12. And there is no reason to believe FIFA will not continue EA’s reign as one of the best game developers around now. Once again, this title has been greatly modified. For regulars to the FIFA franchise, it still has the same feel, look, and ideas of how the football gods intended the game to be. For newcomers, it’s easy; right from the get go, the game starts with tutorials for everything. Just like learning how to walk all over again.

Of course, all of the training can be skipped (uh-oh, big shot over here, says “he knows how to play the game”). Physically, the game is played the same; strategically, it's another story. A new feature to FIFA 12 is pro player intelligence. Now players on the field work their strengths and attempt to avoid their weaknesses. If a player is fast and can pass, he’ll most likely want to push the attack and look to make a play. If a midfielder lacks shot power and dribbling skills, he’ll look to make tackles and play more defense.

If you have played any of the resent EA team games, you would notice a bit of a pattern: some new menu layouts, “Pro Player”, “Ultimate Team”, and a few other copy and paste features. So far, though these features are made close to perfection, they're getting a bit dull. EA Sports is implementing all their new technologies to any game they release and tuning it for each specific sport. I suppose that's fine for people who only play one kind of sports game every year, but all-around video game sports fans might not be as gullible.

I’ve become bored of the same game modes, one in particular being FIFA 12’s version of Pro Player mode. It's supposed to make the game more realistic by only controlling one player on the field, but being player-locked on a football field is like waiting for that one bus that is always late. I set up my pro to be a 6'3", 210-pound beast of a striker, only to watch the other team’s offense basically turn the game into a passing exercise. For days, my defense would hardly give me a chance at an offensive attack. So I changed to midfield, thinking maybe I could just play duel offense and defense... Nope. My teammates found it impossible to help me make tackles on D and could hardly keep the ball on O.

Online head to head is also a major addition to FIFA 12, on the good side this time. This is for the guys and girls who can’t get enough football action, a mode where they can choose a league and work their way to the top. Throughout a 10-game season, player stats increase and decrease depending on how well they perform. It’s much like a regular season, just a bit more dynamic and fast-paced.

But do you know what the best addition to the new FIFA is? The impact engine. EA has gotten extremely good at showcasing “banging bodies”, not only with the hits, but tackling, dribbling, jukes, and even shooting. Unlike Pro Player, this is realism in best way possible. No more relying on just hitting the turbo button to dash pass defenders. Jockeying for position plays a major role in the success a player will have on the pitch.

FIFA 12 should be applauded for its attention to detail. The little things make a huge difference with sports games and there are some minor details that help push this year’s title past the rest. Starting off with the soundtrack, it’s a well-diverse selection of international music. To go along with the tracks, the option to change commentary language is decently polished. I never get tired of hearing the Spanish announcers yell “Gooooooal!!!", followed by crisp Spanish banter as I resume my attack. There is also a setting that allows you to change the color and design of the ball. Trust me when I say this, there are plenty of balls to choose from (har har).

Despite some of its shortcomings, FIFA 12 is one of the best football soccer games ever released. With all the new features and popularity of the sport growing, we should all expect things to only get bigger and better. But let's not talk about having Landon Donovan thrown on the cover. (Damn crybaby.)

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3ds - 3ds - GR review

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3ds - 3ds - GR review

Always second fiddle playingPro Evolution Soccer , FIFA sales, but that doesn't mean, it is not as good of a game. In fact, have hard football fans in General preferred Konami's offer, applaud his deep, realistic gameplay of FIFAmore accessible ' to take the sport. With Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D, Konami is in the 3DS-Start with guns blazing and brings a fully functional version of their hit franchise, which, if not for a few minor setbacks, can go toe to toe with the console versions.

click to enlargeIt is almost shocking how well the game looks when it is first up booted. The characters are all incredibly detailed, with fantastic textures that look almost as good as the releases on current generation consoles. It realistically they are closer to the PlayStation 2 era, but lower resolution of the monitor works benefit the game, and it ends up looking for a handheld game spectacular. Also the presentation, with each of the players outside of the playing field helps the 3D effect, pop and add some incredible depth.

This is not important if the gameplay was not strong, as usually the case with PES, it is. Football games life and die of ball physics, an area in which SPE is exceptional. It feels realistic on the field as a physical object, rolling as the player - feel who also felt - push, enter, and behind Hunt. It is not very accessible to first to those who have played the series in the past and it is definitely a learning curve that must be overcome, but play is smooth and the controls are incredibly close.

Not all is perfect, but, and there are some areas of Konami can be trying to improve future versions. The same low-resolution screen that helps the Visual presentation ends claustrophobic feeling at first. More difficult while the screen is large enough for most games, the sheer size of the football field really see what's going on at any time. Soon I found myself testing of different camera angles to find, I passed into one, but even after I found a more convenient option would, I felt as if I still lacked some of the measures. It's what annoying after a while all not really, but it's definitely shock at first, especially if there is a problem the console versions had still never to fight.

click to enlargeIn addition, multiplayer is limited to local game. It is probably not the fault of the Konami - none of the 3ds games have launch online multiplayer, and it is probably a problem on Nintendo's page, not the developer - but there is still a problem. There are some interesting street pass options, but the chances of a person always any practical use of them are low, and it is not for the lack of multiplayer integration.

It is slow. It is low scoring. And it is difficult to pick up. In this it is dream probably a football fan. She may feel conflict with the release of 3ds well versed in the console version; It will respond in any case not to so such as the PS3 and 360 iterations, and while it is packed with all the features that it needs technically, there is still some, the fans for could look like is missing. But if it is what it is - a handheld start title the game is just wonderful, and there is no doubt, that future versions will clean up some of the problems and better multiplayer, turn the 3DS-Version of the PES (hopefully) add candidates for the Cup in a real
