INFO:
BioWare
continúa cultivando su leyenda dentro del rol con la segunda parte de
Dragon Age. Si Origins ya era un título a tener tremendamente en cuenta
en PC, la secuela es todavía mejor, mejorando los elementos que
resultaban anacrónicos de su predecesor. Combates superiores, aspecto
visual mejorado y una experiencia en definitiva mucho más compacta.

La
historia de Dragon Age II entra dentro de los cánones de los grandes
relatos de BioWare, aunque quizá sin las cotas de talento o inspiración
que sí ha mostrado en otros títulos de su largo currículum como estudio.
Es un buen punto de partida y el juego muestra un buen desarrollo,
aunque quizá en algunos momentos puede pecar de apostar en demasía por
los clichés. Cabe matizar sin embargo que esta observación no es un
aspecto que penalice la puntuación final, como puede verse en el
apartado de jugabilidad que alcanza un 10, puesto que aun no siendo algo
especialmente destacable para BioWare en lo narrativo, el videojuego
está en este campo muy por encima de lo que el género está acostumbrado a
ofrecernos.

Volveremos
a encarnar a un héroe, en una historia que narrará Varric, uno de los
caracteres que conoceremos por el camino y que servirá de cronista de
nuestra epopeya en clave de Campeón de Kirkwall, en un relato que
contará a Cassandra Pentaghast, una buscadora de la Capilla. Nuestro
Hawke, como héroe o heroína, será un personaje atribulado, con un
conflicto familiar a sus espaldas que verá cómo su odisea en la que
huirá con sus seres más queridos de su arrasada ciudad natal: Lothering,
acabará convirtiéndose en algo mucho mayor.

Si
por algo destacó Origins en su momento fue por crear una base
argumental tremendamente profunda en lo que a contexto se refiere, con
un reino, una imaginería narrativa y un trasfondo tremendamente
profundos. En Dragon Age II hay abundantes guiños a Origins, pero
también hay un guión compacto y bien contado que nos narra algunos de
los acontecimientos que vivimos en su predecesor desde otro ángulo, pero
que principalmente explora otra veta de la historia de esta franquicia
haciendo avanzar los acontecimientos. Quizá esta secuela, al igual que
la primera parte, tampoco acaba de sacar partido al 100% de todas las
posibilidades que a priori parece ofertar el telón de fondo que ofrece
el fascinante reino de Ferelden, pero en líneas generales vuelve a rayar
a una altura más que notable.

o
que se nos cuenta en la segunda parte transcurre en una horquilla de
tiempo mucho mayor que en su predecesor, con abundantes flashbacks (y
forwards) y con profundas elipsis que saltarán años completos de
historia. La campaña individual, como sus responsables ya adelantaron en
su momento, es ligeramente más breve que la del original, aunque eso
sí, con mayor atención prestada hacia las misiones secundarias y con una
mayor densidad en cuanto a situaciones y calidad de la exposición de lo
que se nos cuenta. Lo que se consigue con esto es que las relaciones de
acción/reacción estén mucho más claras ante todo lo que hacemos,
obligándonos a medir con cuidado nuestras decisiones, puesto que en este
margen de una década viviremos de forma más drástica que nunca las
consecuencias de nuestras decisiones.

Y
siguiendo con esto el programa hace también un muy buen trabajo a la
hora de hacernos sentir más partícipes de lo que se nos está contando
con un par de decisiones que en realidad son puramente cosméticas, pero
que efectúan un gran trabajo en lo jugable. La primera de ellas es la de
cambiar por completo el sistema de diálogos, que ahora recupera el tono
de Mass Effect optando por un menú radial y por una síntesis de las
opiniones en su presentación, en lugar de por exponer las frases
explícitamente, y obviando el torpe y anacrónico procedimiento de
Origins.

Por
otra parte también destaca la fuerza que adquiere el protagonista como
catalizador de la historia: En la primera parte no hablaba más allá de
la opción que escogiéramos, observando las conversaciones con "cara de
palo", y sin parecer partícipe de nada de lo que estábamos pasando.
Hawke, por su parte, es mucho más efectivo como héroe; se pronuncia,
tiene voz y un carácter bien definido, consolidándose como un personaje
mucho más a tener en cuenta.
